Week 2: The Hidden Knowledge of Technology

Read article: "Effectiveness of the Integration of Ict tools and Activities to Foster Awareness as the First Stage to Reach Learning Autonomy " (Ariza & Suárez, 2013).

My initial reaction of this article was that even when the use of technology in the classroom facilitates somehow the development of a subject, teachers’ intention is to help students to be aware of what they are learning and how they learn it. I found interesting the fact that for every single task a teacher gives, there is a reason behind it, and that reason is the development to reach learning autonomy. It had happened to me, when I have a task, I unconsciously take control of what I have to do, what I need to search first and how much time I have to dedicate it. Finally, despite of the grade you might have; at the end of your assignment the feeling of reward and self-satisfaction is priceless.  Teachers do not expect the highest score; they expect that students can have a practical experience by using all technological resources, which at the end the main focus is the commitment and attitude of improve their learning.

Reading this article now makes me think about the huge effort a teacher puts to deliver a subject. It is not a matter how teachers plan their lessons, it is a matter that they teach students to be independent and autonomous. This reading has been useful because I have found another term “plethora” which I read it means an excessive amount of something. I still have questions about the relation of this word; however, I will be more than glad to read if someone knows about this term, but if I find the answer, I will share it.

  1. Firts, greetings .I am agree on many things that you said, but I am not agree at all with the sentence" Teachers do not expect the highest score". Teachers concern about students score, because the score is a It is a reflection of good or bad work that teachers have done when they teach students, and also the scores are a way to find out which issues need to improve their teaching.
I think that one o the better ways to help to students to be aware about study is explaining that knowledge that they have to learn is going to be very essential in the their future, and tell to them what hindrances they would have if they don't do an effort to learn. because I consider that if students are aware about the perks or disadvantages on do an effort or not at the moment of study the could encourage by themselves.
However It is also teacher’s duty do interesting the class and do the class, using any resources available as possible.

    1. Thank you for your response Juan. I am glad to read that you are not agree with my quotation, please let me explain you in different words, perhaps I did not explain it well. When I said that teachers do not expect the highest scores, what I meant was whatever the score a student may get, it will not always reflect the degree of the knowledge they have acquired. I have noticed that even when a student, in any task, he/she has excellent grades, in the real world they do not know anything. That is why I believe teachers are concerned about the inputs that every single student can receive from technology. This is our challenge, to be able to foster our students to deliver a task with emphasis in acquiring the more knowledge they can obtain, due to the fact that in the future it will not matter the grade you have but the skills and knowledge you have acquired.

  2. Hello Karla. I like when you say that in every activity there is something behind. For all of us as future educators,it is really important to have a purpose in our lessons to provide all the tools they need in order to learn. Autonomy in our students will be essential,so they can experience a feeling of satisfaction and confidency at the end of any activity. It is not that teachers do not matter about students' scores what I think Karla wanted to emphasize is that we will mainly focus on the experience they will have through technological resources. Finally, teachers can do a lot and students can not get the highets' scores but they could learn what it is important at the end.

    1. Thank you for comment Karen. I am really sorry if at first it was very difficult what I expressed about that teachers do not matter students’ scores, but you are right, what I wanted to emphasized is the reason behind the great effort a teacher has when giving a task, it is true that a grade will be part of the learning process, but the main idea is to help students to be aware of what they are doing, how they will do it, and what benefits they will have to deliver a task. Probably, I was not thinking about the grades because we are thinking as teachers, and now we want the best for our students.
